Shopping guide

By making conscious, intentional decisions about the brands and products we purchase, we can do our part in making a positive social, economic and environmental impact. Choosing to use clean and sustainably-sourced  products has truly become a lifestyle for me. I’ve spent a lot of time over the years researching and identifying products that not only live up  work.Below are some of my favorite trusted brands. All products are made in the USA.

Currently using and loving: Beautycounter, Branch Basics, OSEA Malibu, Primal Life Organics, Stasher

skincare & makeup.

Annmarie Skin Care (skin care, foundation, essential oils)

  • Annmarie is a skin care company made with wildcrafted and organic ingredients. The products come in Miron Violet Glass, which allows no visible light to permeate the contents and acts as a preservative by allowing the product to stay protected. Annmarie is MADE SAFE™ certified. All products are cruelty-free and ingredients are always listed on products labels. The company prides itself on being as close to nature as you can get.

Beautycounter (skincare, makeup)

  • Beautycounter is a certified B Corporation with a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. It has a strong focus on educating the public about harmful ingredients used in personal care products, while advocating for more health protective laws in the United States and Canada. I became a consultant with Beautycounter after using their products for a year and loving them. Feel free to contact me if you want to try free samples or have questions about getting started with Beautycounter.

OSEA Malibu (body care)

  • Osea Malibu is a family-owned skin care company that was built on the concept of using nutrient-dense, certified organic seaweed extracts to heal the skin. Products are free of all synthetic ingredients and fragranced with well-sourced essential oils. With a strong commitment to animal rights, the company is Leaping Bunny Certified, cruelty-free and absent of any animal products, and Climate Neutral Certified

household cleaners.

Branch Basics (household cleaners, laundry detergent, hand soap),

  • Branch Basics is a great way to transition most (if not all) of your cleaning products in one swoop. You can replace dozens of toxic cleaners with one concentrate that can clean everything from countertops to bathrooms to pet vomit to laundry. It comes with refillable bottles (now more glass options available!), so over time it only requires repurchasing of the concentrate, which is better for the environment and your wallet. Three women started Branch Basics to help people toss the toxins and live healthy lives after their own personal health journeys with toxin exposure.

Dr. Bronner’s (household cleaners, personal hygiene)

  • Dr. Bronner’s is one of the top-selling soap brands in the U.S. natural marketplace. The company is dedicated to creating socially and environmentally responsible products using only pure organic and fair trade ingredients. The products are simple and often accessible, sold at Target, Amazon and many other local natural stores. It’s a Certified B Corporation in addition to holding many other certifications to back its commitment to meeting the highest standards in the industry.

Molly’s Suds (laundry detergent)

  • Molly’s Suds uses the purest of ingredients to formulate products without carcinogens or known human toxins. The founder, Monica, was a mom and pediatric nurse. After the loss of her daughter, Molly, Monica began searching for a potential cause of the tragedy. She discovered our only protective barrier – our skin – cannot protect us from harmful chemicals found in laundry detergent. That’s why she created Molly’s Suds. The brand adheres to strict ingredient integrity with the belief that health and well-being are too important to settle for “good enough.”

dental care.

Primal Life Organics (skin care, dental care, personal hygiene, supplements)

  • PLO is a Paleo-friendly company that specializes in all-natural dental care and skincare products. It’s one of the first non-toxic companies I tried when making my switch to safer products, as it’s well-known in the Paleo community. PLO takes pride in its holistic and natural approach to making products that help the body re-establish its natural microbiome, rather than inhibit this process. Products can be found on the PLO website or Amazon, though PLO has plans to continue growing in accessibility.

RiseWell (dental care)

  • RiseWell was founded on the idea that toothpaste doesn’t have to contain harsh chemicals to be effective. A family-founded dentist team, RiseWell came from the desire to make natural and effective oral care accessible to families. The brand says the star ingredient, Hydroxyapatite, has been the gold standard in Japanese dentistry for over four decades. With products fit for the whole family, RiseWell prides itself on eliminating chemicals from bathroom counters.

organization.

Stasher (organization, food storage)

  • Stasher is on a global mission to prevent single-use plastic bags from entering our oceans and landfills. These bags are made from platinum silicone, which does not degrade over time and is the ideal material for manufacturing products that come into contact with food. Stasher bags are durable, reusable, non-toxic and safe for microwaves, dishwashers, ovens and storing leftovers in the fridge. A portion of every Stasher sold goes straight to high-impact nonprofits like Surfrider and 5 Gyers, which dedicate their resources to preserving and rehabilitating our oceans.

accessories.

Pela. (phone cases, watch bands, sunglasses)

  • Most people keep their phone cases for 18-24 months, yet cases are made predominantly of non-renewable resources that last hundreds of thousands of years (insert mind-blown emoji here). Pela makes the world’s first 100% compostable phone case and other earth-friendly accessories. The brand has a mission to reduce the amount of plastic on the planet, one phone case at a time. I have had multiple Pela cases and will never go back to the polluting plastics of other cases. Pela holds many certifications, including being a Certified B Corporation

food & drink.

hair care.

Rahua

  • Rahua is a hair-care brand beloved for its carefully chosen plant-based ingredients and luxurious products. The brand is named after its hero ingredient, rahua oil, which Amazonian women have depended on for centuries to nurture and strengthen their hair and skin. Founded on the idea of working with Mother Nature rather than against it, Rahua delivers products with pure, sustainable ingredients and unparalleled performance. Rahua is Symbiotic® certified, which preserves and guarantees the continued existence of healthy forests and healthy ancient cultures within the Amazon Rainforest.

fragrance.

Henry Rose

  • After becoming wary of under-regulated ingredients in personal care products, actress Michelle Pfeiffer founded Henry Rose, a collection of fragrances committed to transparent labeling. Every single ingredient in this brand’s products has been vetted against the strictest standards for health and safety known today. Every Henry Rose fragrance is EWG Verified™ (a mark that stands for health, transparency, and good manufacturing practices) and Cradle to Cradle Certified™, one of the world’s most rigorous product sustainability standards).

fashion.

Allbirds

  • Allbirds makes virtually seamless sneakers and slip-on styles from superfine merino wool, a naturally breathable, temperature-regulating, and moisture-wicking fiber. These sneakers are lightweight, breathable, cool in the heat, warm in the cold. And, for those that like to go sockless, they’re also odor-resistant. Allbirds is a Certified B Corp and partners with other ethical organizations to ensure strict standards to protect the land, animals and people who depend on them.

Everlane

  • Everlane is not big on trends. The brand aims to create timeless pieces for its customers to wear years, if not decades, to come. That’s why it sources the finest materials and partners with ethical factories around the world. Everlane staff run regular compliance audits to evaluate factors like fair wages, reasonable hours, and environmental impact. The brand also values Radical Transparency, revealing the true cost behind all its products – from materials to labor to transportation – then sells them without the traditional retail markup.

  • Patagonia markets and sells outdoor apparel, as well as products such as athletic equipment, backpacks, sleeping bags, and camping food. The brand considers itself an “activist company” and has been recognized for policies such as innovative family/maternity leave. This Certified B Corp is a member of The Conservation Alliance, the Fair Labor Association, and a number of other eco-conscious groups. In other words, Patagonia does responsible retail right. e
